Los Angeles Community Activities That Can’t Be Missed

Los Angeles is known for celebrities, Hollywood, and the excitement that comes from a big city. It’s no wonder LA is the second largest city in the United States behind New York City with a staggering population of 3.9 million.

Community Activities in Los Angeles

Not only does LA draw the rich and famous, but it draws individuals and families from all around the world to not only visit, but stay once they fall in love with the City of Angels. With the amount of people that live in LA, there is no shortage of activities for any age group. Let’s take a look at some of the fun this city has to offer.

Family Friendly Activities

Looking for family friendly activities? Los Angeles has it all!

Griffith Park

Griffith Park is beloved by locals and visitors alike. Families will have fun for hours exploring the over 4,000 acres of land that make up this massive and beautiful area overlooking LA. Whether your family wants to spend the day at the zoo (located in the park), attend the equestrian center, or just enjoy the playground and swimming pool there is fun for the whole family.

CicLAvia

If you are looking for a free, active family outing that brings the community together look no further than CicLAvia. This amazing organization shuts down the streets of downtown LA several times a year to car traffic so families can bike, skate, rollerblade, or walk together through the streets of their city. These events encourage families to get out together and move. Check out their website for future events with one just right around the corner!

Bob Baker Marionette Theater

Bob Baker Marionette Theater has been around since 1963 when Bob Baker had a dream of bringing his passion for creating puppets to the stage. This unique experience allows children to interact with puppets and watch these creations come to life! Children will enjoy hour long shows of singing and dancing while promoting children’s imagination. There are currently several Halloween shows including a reenactment of Disney’s Hocus Pocus!

Kidspace Museum

With over 3.5 acres of hands-on activities for kids Kidspace Museum is an all day adventure. This indoor/outdoor children’s museum offers families the chance to play (and get wet) in a safe and engaging environment. Whether your child is interested in performing science experiments or walking along rocky outdoor streams this will definitely be a place your child will not forget!

Date Nights

Couples in Los Angeles have a lot of exciting things to do in the city. Check out these activities:

The Last Bookstore

Whether you are into reading or not The Last Bookstore is a must see in LA! This over 100 year old building is 22,000 square feet and is full of hidden halls and rooms. It is famous for its book tunnel that even hosts weddings as its wedding aisle. Comic books rooms and vinyl rooms are just some of its unique features. This date night is for those who want to stray from the normal dinner and a movie for a night.

The Edison

The Edison, once a power plant, is now a steampunk underground bar. Enjoy cocktails and live music most nights! Even the website alludes that this bar is more than just a place to get drinks with friends, but a whole experience. Since The Edison wants to tap into an older time they try to keep the place classy with a strict dress code after 9pm. Get ready to step into a world of fantasy.

Echo Park Lake

If you are looking for something fun in the sun while staying cool, consider taking a swan boat ride at Echo Lake right in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. Swan Boat rentals are inexpensive and glow in the dark for a romantic night out. Wild geese and swans swim around your pedal boat as a fountain light show guides your way.

Runyon Canyon

For those adventurous couples looking to see stunning views of LA on top of rolling hills look to hike up Runyon canyon. It can be a create your own adventure type of hike depending on what you are up to. From a little under a mile hike to the most beautiful view to an all day hike there is something for every comfort level. This view of LA is a must see!
